Web App or Progressive Web App (PWA), a great alternative to Native Apps

Webapp, or how to get the advantages of native apps, saving money and being found much easylier

Web app or native app? With mobile phones we learnt to use apps, programs developed ad hoc for mobile on different platforms. Native Apps were born to provide services, entertainment, experiences.

Due to the wide use of mobile phones, a few years ago we got the “overtaking“, that is to say, access to traditional sites was done mainly from mobile phones than from tablets or PCs.

At this point, a new way to allow people use efficiently a website on mobile was needed. The first step was the responsive graphic with the use of CSS. Using this feature, the website became true website and not color stains only on mobile phones. A responsive website is the first step but we are a little bit ahead.

The next step was to melt website and app with a unique development, maintenance, graphic. A solution allowing to coder to focus on the core without wasting time to make it compliant to the dozens of different mobile phone models and the 2 main os on mobile world, IOS and Android.

We do things 1 time only and it works everywhere, pc, tablet, mobile as a true app. Finally we got WebApps, a true revolution for websites offering services

From the user’s point of view, using a native app means going to the store of the various operators (Android or Ios) to search, download, install.

The app must be compliant with the phone model, there must be enough space to install, and in any case this means to install a true program with all the vulnerabilities (security) and problems that it may occur. Same scenario when there is an update to download and install.

Native apps require much longer and more expensive production and maintenance processes and the advantages they offer (offline use, better use of the phone being developed specifically for the system) are often not worth the investment.

A fundamental element is also the availability. a WebApp is a website, therefore reviewed by Google or other search engines and consequently it allows you to carry out more effective web marketing activities (and less expensive than mobile web marketing)

Obviously, not all sites must necessarily become WebApps, however for those who, having their own website, wish to have an app to distribute, in our opinion, the progressive webapp solution is certainly an opportunity to be evaluated because progressive web apps represent the future.

TripToShare is our last WebApp for a trip and social project.
